The fall season is in full swing, and the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation is urging drivers to look out for animals on the road.

Executive Director of the SWF Darrell Crabbe says autumn is mating season for moose, elk, and deer, and they are far less concerned about highway traffic when they are preoccupied with finding a mate.

He says animals will be in this state of mind until late November, and this behavior usually slows down in early December. Crabbe says during this time period especially, drivers should be cognizant of the location, speed, and time of day in which they are driving.

If a driver does happen to collide with an animal, Crabbe says it is important to call 9-1-1 and let a conversation officer or RCMP officer deal with the affected animal.
